File sent as email

For a MAC computer, I have downloaded ADE and Overdrive but the ebooks from the library don't load onto ADE.  I just get an error message saying ADobe Reader could not real the file because it was sent as an email.  I never get an option of downloading to ADE. So frustrated!!  Help.
