Freezing when opening ebook

I download the ebook from the library. Digital Editions opens and then doesn't do anything. It just freezes. If I try to open an ebook by clicking on the ACSM file itself on my desktop, digital editions opens, says "fulfilling x book" then freezes with opening said book. Help!

    Can you please let us know the ADE version and OS information?

    I was using version 4.0 and windows 7.i actually got it to work with version 3. Is there a reason for that?
