Funny marks on iPad app

I'm trying to read a book from NetGalley and the ADE version has these little marks on each page which makes the text very tiny and almost unreadable.  There's a little circle about halfway down the right margin and little lines and circles at the bottom of the right margin.  What are these and how can I get rid of them.  The book doesn't have these in the Mac app.
