GETTING E_ACT_NOT_READY ERROR WHEN TRYING TO DOWNLOAD EBOOK

This is driving me crazy - one book that I purchased will not download, and a second book that I've borrowed from my local library.  Both result in the same error message E_ACT_NOT_READY when I try to download on my Macbook Air.  I'm about to lose my mind!!! Help?!

    1. quit Adobe Digital Editions.
    2. Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.
      If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later.
    3. Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.
