Google books and ADE on Mac?

I'm in Australia using ADE 1.7.2 on a Mac.  I've bought a book from Google Play and successfully downloaded the .acsm file for the .epub version of the book, but when I try to double click the .acsm file to  transfer and open the .epub file in ADE, ADE opens but returns the following error message:

IO Error on Network Request.

Please check your network connection and try again.

I've spoken with Google who say it is an ADE problem and have given me a US phone number (which is of no use to me) and this website.

Does anyone else have the same problem, and if so can you help me please.
