Help with managing files on kobo

I have installed ADE and authorised both computer and kobo.  I can see device in ADE screen where it should be and can transfer files from pc to device.  However, I can't see existing books that are already on the device. Reading web posts etc tells me that I should see an option to "Manage Device" which i don't see either on the pc or on the device screen. Can anyone advise?

    You can use ADE to add books to your device, read books that you put there with ADE, and delete books that you had put there with ADE.  In my experience, you cannot see books or manage books that you purchased directly from kobo and downloaded directly to your device
