Highlighting text doesn't work (sometimes)

I am using ADE on my Micrsoft Surface Pro7. The highlighting function is often inactive after marking a text and therefore not usable. Strange thing is, that some lines later it might be active on marked texts. I haven't found a logic to when it works and when it doesn't. Anyone else has this experience? Or a even a solution? Thank you.
