How do I check activation?

I have been using Digial Editions with no problem. However, today I bought an ebook and downloaded it. It did not appear in Digital Editions. It is in my download file. When I attempt to activate it in Digital Editions I get: Error! Check Activation. What does that mean and how do I do it?
