How do I load my books onto a new laptop?

Very frustrated with this whole process.  I haven't used my kobo e-reader for a year since I got my new laptop. None of my purchased books appear on my ADE account on my new laptop.  And on my kobo many of the books that had been downloaded and partially read are no longer downloaded.
