How to fix "Error Check activation" message to get started with opening an e-book?

I just created an Adobe ID to receive a purchased acsm file and am not able to open the file

as this message comes up: Error! Check Activation.

Has anyone run into this problem?

you can try deauthorizing Adobe digital edition and reauthorize it again.

Had the same problem, de-authorized, but that didn't help. Still getting error message

"Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:

E_ADEPT_UNKNOWN"
