How to get past "Connection Error" when authorizing computer

I have an internet connection, but Adobe Digital Editions keeps giving me a "Connection Error" when attempting to authorize computer.  I've tried re-starting program, re-booting computer, removing authorization, authorizing without an ID. Nothing seems to work. Thanks for any advice!
