HP computer will not open Digital Editions Version 4.5

I am using Digital Editions to read a textbook for a class and it has been working fine up until this point.  Then the other day, my computer did an automatic update and now Digital Editions will not open which is very bad because I cannot complete the class without the book.  It looks like something is about to load after I click the icon, but then nothing opens.  Does anyone know how to fix my problem?
