I downloaded books from the library & when I try to open, ADE opens, but the books dont download

I tried downloading a few books (both in EPUB format as I've usually done, but also tried PDF). Once it downloads to the computer, I click on it, and while Adobe digital edition opens, the books do not download. I tried going into my downloaded folder and clicking them, as well as within ADE, adding items to library, but when I get to the downloaded files, they are greyed out (prohibiting me from uploading them).

Please advise!
