I'm having serious Lag running this app on my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, what's the fix?

When I scroll through the pages or try to highlight, the page movement stutters & lags and then freezes and I get the" pinwheel". All my other apps are running fine. I tried updating but non are to be found. Does anyone know what to do about ?
