I tried to change adobe digital editions from no adobe ID to my adobe ID, but it says I have to use a different ID than used on any other device

I only have one adobe id because I only have one email address so I am stymied in trying to sign in with my adobe id after signing in without ad ID. The trouble is no ID and I cant transfer epub books to an ereader.
