Issues with Adobe Digital Editions 4.5

I have recently purchased an eBook code from my local campus bookstore, and I had no problems activating or downloading the textbook, but recently when I try to read it, the pages move so slow it is impossible to read, the buttons become unresponsive and glitchy, and then the program kicks me off and says Adobe Digital Editions has quit unexpectedly.
