Just installed latest version of Adobe Reader on Windows 7: "Adobe Reader has stopped working" msg

Just installed latest version of Adobe Reader on new desk top with Windows 7.  Most PDF files allow conversion to Word.  Some do not allow conversion, only allows Adobe Reader XI, but I get "Adobe Reader has stopped working" message.  Downloaded latest XI security update.  Still get the error message that i has stopped working.
