Kobo download issue

I purchased two books on kobo that are adobe digital editions i can get the acsm file but not the pdf file. when adobe digital editions is running under the file tab I click the acsm file I get an Error Check Activation popup I have spent about an hour or better with Kobo help and they say it is a adobe problem. any suggestions?  Have deleted and reinstalled ADE made sure my computer was authorized. Kobo is willing to reimburse me for the books but I would rather read them.
