KOBO Ereader not being authorised

I have an old kobo ereader that kobo now say I have to download books via ade.

My issue is that ade has been installed, the books are there but whenever I connect my ereader to the computer it doesn't show up, in fact I don't get any devices showing up at all.

My question is how do I get the device to show up so I can authorise it and get the books downloaded?
