mac computer ipad sync - can't see library

downloaded a book from library to my mac computer adobe digital editions.  All is fine, but can't sync this to the ADE program on my ipad.  Ipad and computer are synced via usb.  Please help - leaving for vacation in 2 days and want to be able to read on the beach.
