MacBook Air download issue

I have installed Digital Editions with my Adobe account authorized. I can successfully download the acsm file for books, but when I double click on the acsm file, it says it is fulfilling but Digital Editions then quits. I've tried reinstalling, downloading with and without authorizing the computer, but the same thing happens. Any suggestions?
