Network Error- Connection issues

Recently I bought a kobo e-reader, and installed adobe digital editions to get books from the library.  Its been working well for about two weeks, but recently it cannot copy book so the kobo e-reader.  Whenever I try an error comes up saying

E_ADEPT_NETWORK -error communicating with activation server.

This has been happening for about a week now.  Looking through the forums i decided to try deactivating the account, but i cannot because another error comes up saying that adobe cant connect to the internet.  Turing off all the firewalls, opening up the ports etc, has not resolved the issue.  Furthermore i tried a clean reinstall, and that has also not helped.

If anyone could shed some light on this situation it would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance
