New ADE password/id

ADE recently assisted me to change my email address and password associated with my account as we have a new email account and different email address and I couldn't remember by password associated with that account.  This was successfully changed, however, when I try to transfer a book from ADE to my new device, I am getting the message that the item was originally downloaded with a different user account or Adobe ID and to continue, I will need to add that account.  Is there any way around this.  I have many books that are still unread on my ADE and my previous eReader has died.  I know what my old email address was, but can't remember the password. Thanks
