pc don't recognize sony e-reader

My sony e-reader won't communicate with my laptop any more. The Sony guys told me that as my laptop has been recently repaired, it could be that it isn't authorized any more, and that I need to contact Adobe support. I can't even get to see or run the setup in the e-reader. Can someone help?
