Question

Properly installed Digital Editions does not launch

Hello,

I installed Adobe Digital Editions on my Desktop computer running on Windows 7, was properly signed in with Adobe and acknowledged - and everything worked fine. I did the same on my laptop, which is still running on XP SP3; installation went without a hitch and here I was also properly signed in at the Adobe site and acknowledged as being so. However, when I tried to launch a pdf file which was DRM protected but supported by Digital Editions, I was asked as usual if I wanted to open said file in Digital Editions, and then clicked 'Yes'... instead of having the file open properly as it did on my desktop, the Adobe site opened on my browser.

In other words, no way to open a DRM protected file in Digital Editions on my XP laptop - and I seem to be caught in a loop there, being constantly redirected to the Adobe site, and this while DI being properly installed and I properly signed in!

I have tried to install and de-install DI several times, to no avail.

Who can help met out here?

Thanks for practical help!

Harry

    1. Open Adobe Digital Edition
    2. If you are in Reading mode, switch to Library mode by clicking the Library button.
    3. Drag and drop the PDF you like to open into ADE Library or Add the PDF book to Library using menu item File-->Add to Library
    4. Now you can open the book in ADE and read it.

    Hope this solves your problem.

    Hi again,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

It does not solve the problem, however.  Indeed - and I forgot to mention this - even if it appears to be properly installed Adobe Digital Edition cannot be opened on my laptop, whatever I try (uninstalling, reinstalling, et cetera).  When I double click on the icon, there seems to be some activity for about 5 seconds, then... nothing happens.  Please note again that the same Adobe Digital Edition version installed on my desktop computer works without a hitch.

    To repeat the problem:

    - When I try to drop a DRM protected or, for that matter, any epub file on the icon of the program (as one does usually to launch such files), the same occurs: some short activity then... nothing.

    - When I try to launch a DRM protected file directly by double-clicking on it, first the normal Adobe Reader opens with the pop-up message asking if I want to open that DRM file into Adobe Digital Edition; when I click "Yes", something happens indeed: the Adobe Digital Edition site opens in my browser!

    - And to repeat what you ask for: no way to open Adobe Digital Edition directly.

Please note finally that all ebook readers installed on the laptop and for that matter also on my desktop (Kindle... Calibre... etc.) work perfectly well but won't open a DRM protected file of course.

Hopefully you can come up with a solution.

    Thanks again,

    Harry

    Hello,

The one reply I received - see above - did NOT solve my problem. Doesn't any one at Adobe or elsewhere know of a proper solution?

    Best,
