Returning Library books Early

I am having trouble returning library books when I have finished reading them.  Digital Editions returns some but with others I just get an error message and then Digital Editions just closes down.

    What is the ADE version you are facing the problem with ?

    Underlying OS: Windows or Mac or iOS ?

    I have ADE version 2 and I use windows XP
