Saving your bookmark when your book expires?

How do I save my bookmark in my e-reader when my borrowed title expires & I wish to download the same title?

i.e., I borrow most of my titles from the library, and when I go to download the title again when it becomes available I've lost my place in the new download?

It ends up taking me forever to find the same spot in the book that I last read when the new (but same) downloaded title becomes available again.
