SONY PRS-600 authorized user has Adobe ID ... but no Adobe account "today"

Hello, my wife has a Sony PRS-600 and her device has an authorize user (her) with an Adobe ID, according to Digital Editions when I connect her reader to the PC.  The issue I have is that her Adobe ID is not recognized by Adobe as an account, so, I cannot authorize the PC with the reader to download the books to the computer.  Any attempt results in permission denied errors during the copy.  I have tried annonymous.  I have tried with my Adobe account.  Nothing has worked

I cannot find a direct help line TO Adobe to ask them for help.  Does anyone have a means for me to try Adobe support directly?  Does anyone have any insight into what else I can try?  We no longer have the old PC that was used when she used her reader actively, and Sony has LONG ago left the ebook and reader market (and I missed the window to transition to Kobo).
