Speak selected text on Mac stopped working?

The speech has been working for the past hour and no longer allows it. I am not able to copy the text as well. How do I rectify this?

Having the same issue - I deleted the book and redownloaded it from my school library and that worked for about an hour. Then it just stopped and redownloading doesn't change anything.

Frustrating.
