too many devices activated with the same ID

I can't authorize my kobo e-reader because it says that too many devices have been activated with the same ID, eventhough it's always the same device that I'm constantly authroizing and de-authorizing. I tried contacting customer service to have the activiations reset but I was instead told to consult the forums. 

Please, solve this problem!
