What can I do to fix this? I have a Macbook and then I'd like to be able to read them on my iphone.

You need to make sure that all your devices are registered/authorized using the same Adobe account/ID.

This must be the same account as the one in use when the books were first accessed,

as once accessed your copy of a book is locked to the account in use at the time.
