Unable to download: E_ACT_NOT_READY

I got this error message: 

E_ACT_NOT_READY

when trying to download an epub to digital editions. I have tried erasing my authorization but after I enter my username and password it says: Unable to erase Authorization. Please try after some time.

Then I opened the digital editions folder on my mac and was looking for the activation.dat file to move to trash but it wasn't there.

Any input would be extremely helpful! Thanks.
