Unable to download with ADE - license error

I bought an ADE protected book on Google.

The book gives an .acsm d/l file which I have tried adding to ADE 3.0 & 4.5.

Every attempt to open the book with ADE fails with

E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TOO_SHORT

msg.

I can see that ADE is 'correctly' activated to my id in the computer authorization dialog.

I have waited over 1 month for google to provide a solution.  Finally they have just told me to come here  , I had already & seen comments saying use v.3 but I still can't get past this error.

Any help appreciated.

    Hi,

Please try de-authorizing and re-authorizing ADE on your computer and then try accessing the same eBook.

    • Open Adobe Digital Editions.
    • Press Control-Shift-D (Windows) or Shift-Command-D (Mac OS) to deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.
    • Choose Help > Authorize Adobe Digital Editions.

Same error unfortunately.  Also tried ADE 2.0 with same result.

I have read that a corrupt .acsm can cause this error, but google have been totally unwilling to answer this question directly.

I specifically asked them if they could verify the file server-side, AFAIK that has not happened & I get no further.
