Unable to return books early

I'm using ADE 2.0 on Windows 7, and can't return books to the library early. I click on "return borrowed item" but nothing happens. Library shows that I still have the book checked out. I used to be able to do this with no problem, but I haven't checked out library books for my nook (first edition) in a long time.
