Unable to transfer library books to Kobo H2O and ADE display has disappeared

Hi. First I had trouble moving a library book to my Kobo. The msg said that I had to authorize my ereader (it was already authorised). I de-authorized and then re-authorized it. Still couldn't open the book. I could open it on my Windows 10 laptop however, so the book loan was OK.
Then the Devices display on my ADE page on my laptop lost all its bookshelves.
The Kobo ereader device showed up as attached however I couldn't open it.
I also can't add any Bookshelves, and none of the books that I own (as opposed to library copies) are showing.
Basically my left hand menu display just shows Kobo eReader and Bookshelves (like folders but with no contents)
I did a factory reset but nothing has changed except that the library books I had borrowed previously, and which were able to be opened, disappeared.
I have owned this Kobo for about 4 years and probably downloaded about 1,000 library books.
Is this a Kobo problem or ADE?
