Using Ctrl C

I am using Adobe Digital Editions, and had a number of ebooks transferred from an old Windows XP laptop to a new Windows 10 laptop. On the XP laptop I could highlight text then press Ctrl C to copy text from an ebook into a Word file, but when I use Ctrl C on the Win 10 laptop the window disappears completely. How do I copy text from an ebook into a Word document?
