why can't Digital Editions see my ereader?

My PC can see my Nook but Digital Editions is not showing a device in the top left corner as shown on this page

I plugged in the Nook before opening Digital Editions

    Me too. I followed the instructions in the ADE manual for downloading Jaws18, using the link in the manual. After downloading, it asked for an authorization code, found in the shipping package. Apparently, this is a professional version.
