Why isn't a downloaded OverDrive ebook showing up in Digital Editions?

After downloading an ebook using OverDrive on my Windows 8.1 laptop (manufacturer: Hewlett Packard), the ebook does not appear in Adobe Digital Editions, as it is apparently supposed to.

Can anyone help, please?

Did you get a URLLink.acsm file ? You should open this file in Adobe Digital Editions.

Even after you opened this file and the book did not show up, then lets find out what's wrong.
