Won't load my Ebook properly

I have downloaded the Adobe Digital Editions software.  My Ebook shows up in the library.  If I double click to read it the contents appear and the first page but if I try to move onto the next page or click a different subject area from the contents, the whole thing seems to crash.  The scroll bar does seem to move along but the page number doesn't increase and the view remains blank.  Even if I wait for ages, nothing ever loads.
