Wont communicate

I have ADE on both my laptop and desktop and have used my Kobo touch very successfully for more than a year, recently I purchased a Kobo mini but have been unable to get ADE to recognise it when I attach via the usb cable,  I get a message that Window needs to format the disk in. drive 1 before you can use it..........this I wont do.

Have tried returning the mini to factory settings but it still wont work with ADE
