Acrobate Pro XI: "serial number valid but qualifying product could not be found."

I erased my Macbook Pro and reinstalled OS 10.11.2. I downloaded Acrobat Pro 11 and reinstalled it. I used the correct serial number and got the error message: "serial number valid but qualifying product could not be found." Nuts because I downloaded the qualifying product from Adobe.

Can anybody help?

    Perhaps you're misunderstanding the meaning of qualifying product?

    You've downloaded and installed Acrobat XI and entered your upgrade serial number.

    That means you upgraded to Acrobat XI from an earlier version such as Acrobat X or Acrobat 9. That earlier version is known as the "qualifying version". It qualifies you to a discounted upgrade price so you're eligible to use the upgrade serial number.

    So, in the dropdown, select version X or 9 and enter the serial number from Acrobat X or Acrobat 9.

    Then your Acrobat XI installation will complete and the software can be activated.

    The qualifying product (and its serial number) is the older version that you upgraded from.  The message is indicating you need to identify the older version that qualifies you to use the upgrade license.

    I understand completely. However, the scroll down window lists many products but not Acrobat Pro XI, even though such a product does exist because I downloaded it less than an hour ago from Adobe.
