Adobe Acrobat Pro DC - Error message - Serial Number is not Valid

I purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro DC from Staples. I took the disk out of the box and started to install. I entered the serial number and was give the error message "serial number is not valid". I contacted support and they gave me a link to use. I tried that and got the same error message. The tech looked up the serial number and it was a valid number. What should I do next? Should I just send it back to Staples?

copy the disk contents to a desktop directory and use your 24 digit (consisting of 6 groups of 4 numbers) serial number to install from that directory.

I did that too. I tried the 24 digit serial number with dashes, with spaces, and all together. It is invalid every time. Any suggests are appreciated.
