Adobe Illustrator C6 - Asking for me to buy Creative Cloud

I have a Mac and Illustrator worked not too long ago, maybe around the beginning of the year. Now when I open up Illustrator, it takes me to the screen to buy or get free trial for Creative Cloud? Anyone have any idea what has happened?

that's a scam, and is not adobe.

if you revealed any passwords, change them immediately.  if you revealed any info that should be secure, change what you can and notify banks/credit card companies.

That seems like a lot of work, but may be worth it. I just don't understand why all this trouble. Your solution is much different than Adobe's response of pay Adobe $200 for another serial number. I just wish people's solutions were consistent especially when it's money related. It seems they just want more money from me.

Abaum23 I reviewed your account an you have a educational copy of Creative Suite 6 Design Standard for Mac OS.  You can find your registered serial number under your account at http://www.adobe.com/.  For more details on how to locate your registered serial number see Find your serial number .

The download links offered by Kglad, in message #10, will work with your license for Creative Suite 6 Design Standard for Mac OS.  If you are installing under macOS Sierra then see Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra)  for a workaround to allow installation under Apple's current operating system release.

I am very concerned that you mentioned you spoke with a member of our support team.  I am showing the last interaction under this ID was from 2/8/2013.  Do you have a case number from the interaction where you were asked to spend money to change your license?   How did you contact Adobe support to make your request?

Nope, I actually am using El Capitan. However, I am on update 10.11.2. Still, Adobe should allow me to continue updating my OS so my other applications can stay compatible. Never heard of a product that said you cannot update your OS for our product to work. That is just bogus.

it's apple that made their newer os'es incompatible with older software (not just from adobe).  it's not adobe that designed their older software to be incompatible with newer apple os'es.

and if adobe monitored your activity to see if you were about to anything unrelated to adobe (like update your os), people would be screaming about privacy rights.  and if adobe prevented you from updating your os, the outcry would be greater.

that all said, the cs6 suite still works with newer mac os'es for most people.  commonly, after an os upgrade you need to

    1. secure your serial numbers (https://mac-product-key-finder.com/)

    2. uninstall your adobe programs (using the uninstallers in the applications folder)

    3. clean your computer per Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

    4. restart your computer

    5. reinstall using the installation files (linked below) and activate using your serial number.

for people that lose their licensing after installing a cc trial or subscription, the fault is adobe's (imo).

adobe programs can only have one licensing model per computer.  ie, if you start a cc trial or subscription, you lose your perpetual licenses.  i think the cc installer should, at least, warn users that's going to happen and give them a link to explain how to restore their perpetual license after their cc trial/subscription ends.  i've passed that on to adobe's engineers and they say they're working on it.

in any case, after losing your perpetual license, you can do the following to restore your perpetual license:

    1. secure your serial numbers (https://mac-product-key-finder.com/)

    2. uninstall everything cc including preferences, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html

    3. then uninstall the cc desktop app, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html

    4. uninstall your older adobe programs (using the uninstallers in the applications folder

    5. clean your computer per Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems for both cc and your older perpetually licensed suite(s).

    6. restart your computer

    7. reinstall using the installation files (linked below) and activate using your serial number.

    Downloadable installation files available:

Download and installation help for Adobe links

Download and installation help for Prodesigntools links are listed on most linked pages.  They are critical; especially steps 1, 2 and 3.  If you click a link that does not have those steps listed, open a second window using the Lightroom 3 link to see those 'Important Instructions'.

Here is what customer support told me:

Help And Support - Monday 1:25 PM

    > ok we like to inform you CS 6 new update not accept your old serial number.. so we have to generate the new serial number so then we can activate your CS 6 with EL Capitan or OS Sierra..

or else you have to buy our CC 2017 monthly subscription

Help And Support - Monday 1:35 PM

    > it will cost you after all the discounts $200 USD.. because once older version stop working then there is no way to fix the older version of the software then we have to update the version and generate the new serial number or else CC 2017 software

None of this was actually something I did. Adobe is not compatible with latest Mac OS. Typically if a product is not supported, it is still functional but you will not get updates. Adobe has gone even further and did the unthinkable: not allowing me to even use the product I actually bought and spent hundreds of dollars on!

Hi I do not have a subscription. I bought the Creative Suite for about $300, 3-4 years ago.
