Adobe installs files in Mac with damaged property list data.

DiskWarrior 5.2 - Files - Start finds that some files installed by Adobe applications in Mac have property list data that is damaged. For instance:

File: "._Info.plist"

Detected that Property List data is damaged and cannot be repaired.

Unexpected character ‹ at line 1

Location: "Mac/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Application Manager/LWA/amtservices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/"

DiskWarrior indicates that Property List is a standard file format for storing data and is often used to store preferences. The names of these files normally end with a .plist file extension. Corrupt property list files can cause system instability.

It would be great if that was fixed. Thanks!

The file "._Info.plist" is not a property list, it is a resource fork file for a disk shared with SMB, invisible in Finder. The report described above is therefore a bug in the reporting software, and does not mean there is anything wrong. However, deleting the files may do all sorts of damge. (Happily, plists should survive this damage).

Thanks for the reply. Well, the application that finds such issue is DiskWarrior from Alsoft, and the developer says that it is a real problem of Adobe installers. Actually, the issue arises only with Adobe installers and not with any other from other developers, after installing many applications over the years.

The issue remains with Acrobat DC Pro (Continuous Track) 2021.005.20058 on macOS 11.5.1 (20G80) Big Sur.

Property list files are files that store serialized objects. Those files are often used to store a user's settings. They are also used to store information about bundles and applications.

An example of a Info.plist file can be found here: asi-http-request/Info.plist at master · pokeb/asi-http-request · GitHub

Theoretically, you can trash these two Info.plist files. The application that's using them will create new ones upon startup. You will lose your custom preferences for that application, though... If in doubt, create a backup of the files before trashing them!

Thanks. Yes, I have trashed and deleted many many, many, many times such Adobe damaged files over the years, yet they are re-created when the Adobe application is opened, and are always created as damaged as DiskWarrior reports. I have tested hundreds if not thousands of applications in Mac over the years, and have found this problem only with Adobe applications.
