Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended Student and Teacher Activation?

hello, I bought a sealed Windows CS5 Extended Student & Teacher for our lad who is starting upper school this year.

Before I unseal it can anyone tell me if this product can still be activated as the box says we need to obtain a serial number via proof of educational eligibility
