Try this:

Please go to Adobe Customer Service and only ask to have your activations reset (make sure to sign in to your Adobe account first and allow popups on your browser):
https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen will automatically open the chat window.
Type "Agent" in the chat box to bypass the chatbot and be connected to a person.

You may also be able to contact Adobe by phone:

Thanks all - the problem seems to have fixed itself. I wonder if once I signed in here a chanel opened and the license - which I have registered here on my account (see, I told you it was genuine) - was activated automatically?

Thanks for your responses on this matter.

However, whilst almost all the applications are now working fine, the one I use most, Premiere, quits on startup, saying it has a serious error. Any ideas?

Check to be sure you have TLS 1.2 enabled. If you're on a Mac with an OS of Catalina or later, it won't work at all.

Other than that, do you remember who you bought it from? Some vendors illegally resell volume licenses to individuals. When you tried to reactivate, an auto-checker may have determined that the license you were sold was supposed to be part of a volume license. Always best to buy direct from Adobe.
