Annoying red dot in CC icon on Mac menu bar

The last month, month and a half, after one of the latest updates, this annoying red dot is about always there.
It goes away after clicking the icon (and the Creative Cloud window appears with nothing new), but it's back when my computer wakes up the next day.

I don't have a clue why.
There are no messages, no available updates and I don't see any setting that might cause this dot to be there.

Can someone tell me how to get rid of it before it pulls out my eye and suck it up?

Could it have to do with "syncing"? I have a Photography subscription, I use Lightroom Classic and I don't use the cloud.

Have you Turned OFF the option to Start Creative Cloud with the system as I described in the other conversation?????

If not then you will Always have that icon and wou Will see a Red dot on it every now and then.

As I said before you do NOT need to have the CC DTA running to use all other Adobe applications.

Here it is June 2023 I still cannot turn off this wretched, distracting red dot that appears on the Adobe Cloud icon along my menu bar. Removing the icon from the Mac menu bar should not be the solution.

Every Adobe notification known to man on my primary workstation has been turned off, & still the dot reappears. I am happy to be reminded of app' updates, but this intrusive dot is unwelcome. The post (below) that was awarded a correct answer has a link to the solution that goes nowhere.

@Pedro Downunder

that red dot typically means you have updates available.

No, I get the red dot everyday, and yet everything is up to date.

Here's an update for anyone who suffers from red dots.

I wrote before that I "quit" instead of "hid" the Creative Cloud app for it to not appear in the Mac menu bar at all. And I did turn on macOS Notifications for Creative Cloud.
Since then I was notified about a Creative Cloud update two or three times. I applied every update, quitting the app after that. Perfect.

Today macOS Notifications showed there is an update for Photoshop.
So that's even more perfect.

There is really no need for the Creative Cloud icon to be in view, with or without red dots — well, except during the update process. Just quit Creative Cloud, don't hide it. And let macOS notify you when there's an update.

I didn't know that MacOS detected creative cloud app updates...That is really helpful to know that you don't need the creative cloud app to get the app updates, definitely quitting out of it immediately! That was the only reason I was leaving CC open, for updates. Otherwise, it's just a waste, for me at least. Thank you!

This is super frustrating. I dont want to quit out of CC, I prefer to have it there to keep up to date on the apps. But can't stand that the red dot is there when there are NO updates and NO notifications on the little bell. It's either a bug, or they're trying to push people into using the CC app more. please fix this adobe!

Well, I don't see that as a fix. It is a workaround. I made no changes for over 2 - 3 years now with CC and have never seen this before until these last weeks. I only saw the red dot when there was something that actually needed to be updated, but the problem now is that this dot shows up with nothing needing to be updated (inc. the covid-19 email update). Needless to say, I've done the workaround as well (CC is no longer running), so will have to manually check for updates to my apps now, but at least I don't see the No-Notification, Notification Red Dot 😞 Thanks for the help at least, but Adobe should fix this.

Same here, very annoying and I would rather not have to workaround this as described. Please fix this.

Read the 2 posts above yours. It is a Notification that is cause the Red Dot with No program updates.

Click the Bell icon in the CC DTA tool bar.

I have two different machines both showing the stupid red dot, and no notifications under the bell icon nor updates available.

I had the same problem with the red dot when all my apps are current. In poking around I discovered that there was a message from Adobe re: corona virus that was sent about a month ago. Once I read that message, the red dot seems to have disappeared - hopefully forever.

Where do we find this message? I'd like to read it myself and maybe that silly red dot will finally go away.

Edit: Found it. In the CC app, click on the bell for notifications. There's the culprit; now click on it and dismiss the damned thing. With luck, problem solved.

No messages behind the bell for me, but still have the red dot. On two different machines.

It's VERY VERY Annoying.

I've tried "pause synching" and it seems to keep it off for now. 9 days so far. I turn synching back on 1x a week to check for updates of apps.

This problem is not solved yet.

An update: After already disabling Notifications in macOS for all Adobe stuff, I turned off "Always keep Creative Cloud up to date". The next days I received some real updates for Photoshop and Creative Cloud, together with some real red dots (annoying still, but they were there for a reason).

But later the annoying red dot was back for no apparent reason. So I tried also disabling "Launch Creative Cloud at login". And today I got my first dot for nothing.
There are days I hate Adobe so much.

I don't think I got anything left to disable now. Does anybody know where that badge is located on the Mac. I suppose I could try to deactivate it like I deactivate the Mac alias arrows.

Good you followed up on that.

Yes I did disable "Launch Creative Cloud at login" like I wrote. But I had not restarted or logged out.

I've done so now.

And as you say the whole icon is gone now (not just the red dot). Feels like I have my Mac back again. Love this. And Photoshop starts up without asking anything.

But how does this work from here, will I still be notified about updates? Will I be asked to log into Creative Cloud after I restart my computer, with or without the icon returning to its place?

It's not just on Mac.  It happens on Windows too.  But since these icons are hidden 99% of the time, it's not something I worry about.

If it bothers you, I'm sure you can hide your Mac Menu Bar icons.

I think it's a design flaw to force an app icon into that prominent place in the first place. But Adobe makes it worse not providing an option to remove their icon from the Mac menu bar.

Thanks for pointing to that post.

I have now turned off "Always keep CC up to date". I'm going to see what happens.

(I already tried disabling Notifications in macOS, thinking bad interaction could be the culprit, but to no avail.)
