Archive Director .dxr files

Hi, I am working on a project at the Smithsonian Archives and I need to find out how to open and transcode old .dxr files. I have not had luck using ffmpeg or any other Adobe product - I do not have a copy of Director. Is there somewhere I can download a trial version just to see if I can open these files in it? Alternatively, does anyone know a program/command that will open or transcode these files?

Thanks,

Julie

I think your best bet is to find and contract with someone who has kept a copy running. It’s less than 3 years since it was discontinued so this is more likely than some apps. You might try asking in the Adobe Animate forum, probably the closest crossover of visitors. You might even be able to transfer a license from someone, I assume a department like yours has rooms full of marvellous “obsolete” kit.
