Question

Audition CS6 won't install on external SSD for Mac

I am currently running Audtion CS6 on my 2012 Mac Book Pro running Mojave 10.14.6 OS.  I need to install the Audition CS6 application on an external SSD so that I can continue to use the 32 bit Audition app after I update my macbook hard drive to the newest OS (which only has 64 bit compatibility) in order to update other software programs.

I installed the same OS, Mojave 10.14.6 OS on the external SSD to run Audition on.  I have tried migrating Audition to the external SSD three different ways, but the program with neither install nor launch on the external SSD.

1. I downloaded the installer dmg file from my account on Adobe.com and tried to install it on the external SSD running Mojave, but get an error message stating that the installer won't initiate.

2. I copied the original installer dmg file from my macbook HD over to the external SSD and tried using it to install Audition on the SSD, but after I input the activation code and press activate I get a message stating I am not connected to the internet even though I am.

3. I used the Carbon Copy Cloner application to clone the Audobe Audition CS6 application straight from the macbook HD to the external SSD, but get error message 16 when trying to open Audition and run it.

I do not have any other computer with the license activated.  Since Audition comes with two activation licenses I should be able to use it on the external SSD like it is a second computer.  How do I do this?  Do I need to reformat the external SSD with an even older Mac OS like High Sierra? None of the troubleshooting steps listed on the help section of Adobe's website have worked. Thanks

A third option is to replace your internal HD with an ssd and do a fresh install of the newer macOS, then connect your original HD  to your MacBook Pro from which you should be able to boot off of.

Fourth option is to install both Mojave and the newer MacOS on a new internal ssd, preferably 1 TB or larger.

Then you can boot off whichever macOS you need without have to have an external drive.

Why would there be any difference in using an internal vs external drive? Don't they both provide the exact same function?

migration often fails with adobe software.

what file format is your ssd?  (exfat is most likely to be compatible.)

APFS as it is to my understanding, required to run the mac OS

your formatting is a problem.  eg, in no case wlll a case-sensitive format work with cs6
