Aware of deadline/trouble claiming the CS5.5 to CS6 upgrade offered on purchase prior to 5/6/12?

I purchased the CS5.5 on May 1st to take advantage of this deal.  As life went I got busy and was happy using the version I knew; I started to worry when I went to my portal and saw no instructions for upgrade.  I conatcted customer service nad they told me I missed the deadline to do the upgrade.  I was supposed to be sent a product key but I did not get this and they are telling me this is my fault that I did not follow up on an email they were meant to send me.  I can't see why I would have bought the package at the date I did without wanting the free upgrade and the whole process seems very unclear - a bit like an intentionally misguided sales promise. Has anyone else experienced similar? And can anyone understand why they would take such a negative stance towards helping me out by providing me with the upgrade key (even if late) - I am a student after all.  Does anyone have any idea for complaints channels?  A whole office full of subcontracted csutomer service agents is a little bit like being stonewalled - I was told there were no further channels for dicussion - unless I wanted to call the help line! I was not given anything to work with - just an apology.  I think this is not in good faith and poor business practice. Any help would help!

These are the offer tersm:

Offer terms

Offer expires May 6, 2012, at 11:59pm (PDT). VOID WHERE PROHIBITED, TAXED, OR RESTRICTED BY LAW. Customers who purchase the most current Adobe® Creative Suite® software version, available through the online Adobe Store or Adobe Call Center, from 12am (PDT) on March 26, 2012, through 11:59pm (PDT) on May 6, 2012, will receive a one-time upgrade to the equivalent Adobe Creative Suite 6 product (download version only) at no additional cost when it ships publicly. Offer does not include Acrobat, Flash Catalyst, Flash Builder, Contribute, and OnLocation. Residents of embargoed countries are not eligible. Upgrade codes and/or software will be delivered electronically to the email address associated with the qualifying purchase. Ten days after the ship of Adobe Creative Suite 6 and no later than May 31, 2012, at 11:59pm (PDT), customers will receive an email with instructions and a unique promotional code to receive the one-time upgrade to the equivalent CS6 product. For select countries, customers will receive information in their Creative Suite 5.5 order confirmation email on how to redeem the one-time upgrade to CS6.

Internet access is required to download and install the software upgrade. Offer is not available retroactively and excludes future Creative Suite software version updates. Offer is subject to availability and U.S. export control laws and laws where the recipient resides. Offer may not be assigned, exchanged, sold, transferred, or combined with any other discount or offer, or redeemed for cash or other goods and services. Void where prohibited, taxed, or restricted by law.

And this is another piece of info i just googled - interestingly a different offer expiry date to the one given me by teh help agent - but I got no coupon so I still fee the date is a moot point:

This last day to submit a claim for English language customers was August 6, 2012.  You are certainly welcome to contact our support team and discuss why you were unable to submit your claim prior to August 6, 2012.
